Surrounded by the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site, you’ll find the four Dolomite towns of Kastelruth/Castelrotto, Seis am Schlern/Siusi allo Sciliar, Völs am Schlern/Fiè allo Sciliar and Tiers am Rosengarten/Tires al Catinaccio. These holiday destinations are well-connected with a network of public bus routes. Read on to find out what makes each of these places unique.
Kastelruth/ Castelrotto
Kastelruth/Castelrotto is the largest holiday resort in the Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi Dolomites region and is one of the places that have been awarded the title of Borghi più belli d'Italia, Italy's most beautiful hamlets and villages. The painted façades in the historic town centre are remarkable, as are the numerous local businesses that invite you to stroll and shop. The museum of traditional costumes is also here, as is a museum dedicated to the local folk band, the Spatzen. The 82 metre church tower watches over the town.
Seis am Schlern/Siusi allo Sciliar
Seis am Schlern/Siusi allo Sciliar is at the foot of the 2,500-metre-high Schlern/Sciliar – a mountain shrouded in legend. It’s also home to the oldest nature reserve in South Tyrol, the Schlern-Rosengarten/Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Reserve. A holiday here is the perfect place to experience nature, surrounded by magic and history. This is also where you’ll find the valley station of the Seiser Alm/ Alpe di Siusi cable car to get you quickly to the biggest alpine pasture in Europe.
Völs am Schlern/Fiè allo Sciliar
The tranquil and romantic Völs am Schlern/Fiè allo Sciliar enjoys a very mild climate. Not far from Bolzano/Bozen, the village has grown from a summer retreat to a spa town with an amazing panorama. For over a century, visitors have been able to come to Völs am Schlern/Fiè allo Sciliar to relax and recuperate enjoying a traditional alpine hay bath. If you prefer a more active holiday, you can look forward to the local pond where you can also ice skate in the winter.
Tiers am Rosengarten/ Tires al Catinaccio
This village is the best place to get to know the legend of King Laurin and his fascinating mountain world. A very popular destination for winter and snowshoe hiking is the area around Tiers am Rosengarten/Tires al Catinaccio: whether a tour into the rustic Valle di Ciamin valley or under the Rosengarten/Catinaccio, whether a leisurely pleasure tour or a challenging alpine tour, there is something for everyone. Don’t miss the Enrosadira at the Rosengarten/Catinaccio, watching the light change hue as the sun sets. The small Wuhn lake is the best place to watch this happen, admiring the colour change reflected on the surface of the pond.
